22) What is the difference between adjustment and spinal manipulation?

1) What is a Palmérien® chiropractor?

He is a health practitioner with a real doctorate in Chiropractic, after studying in a faculty of Chiropractic approved, and who exercises the authentic chiropractic of PALMER (the founder of art) according to its objectives and the modern means brought by science, of course. The title of “Doctor of Chiropractic” is the international denomination of the chiropractor diploma. This practitioner complies with strict safety standards (Healthcare Protocol, Ed. LABCOC) and also offers concrete guarantees to his patients on the quality of care according to a professional code of ethics (Code of Ethics, Ed. LABCOC). The Palmérien® chiropractor is a member of the Collège des Chiropraticiens Palmériens® de France (CCPF).

2) What is Palmérienne Chiropractic®?

This is the concept of global health care developed by BJPALMER, intended to regulate neural function at the same time as the biomechanical function of the human body, with the aim of correcting neuro-vertebral dysfunctions but whose ultimate objective is ultimately to stimulation of general vitality, optimization of health.

The neural and vertebral functions are nested, thus interdependent and interactive, in the spine and skeleton. This whole structure represents what chiropractors have called the neuroskeleton®, their field of action.

There is Palmérienne Chiropractic as there is Euclidian or Einsteinian Geometry, or Freudian Psychoanalysis, Jungian, etc.

Chiropractic Palmérienne® and chiropractor Palmérien® are terms protected internationally under a registered label.

However, it should be noted that this protected name has been essentially developed to avoid confusion and deception of patients. Indeed, in France, doctors who have learned some manipulations of vertebrotherapy or osteotherapy are still allowed to date by the Code of Public Health and the law to be called “chiropractor, chiropractor, chiropractor” without having ever set foot in an approved chiropractic faculty or have the appropriate diploma.

3) What is the health and social position of chiropractors in the world?

Chiropractors are the third independent health profession (after medicine and dentistry) in the world health service. It is the second largest health profession in the entire North American continent. Chiropractic has a high rate of expansion worldwide which makes it a real phenomenon among the health professions.

It has been officially recognized by the World Health Organization since 1997; it is the only alternative health profession in this case. Chiropractors from the WFC sit on the WHO Board. The chiropractor is considered everywhere as the Expert in the field of musculoskeletal disorders

Chiropractic has also been recognized by the International Olympic Committee since 1992; it is also the only alternative health profession in this case.

Chiropractors are also present in hospital services in some modern countries. They are also introduced to the health service of the armies of these countries.

Chiropractic has its own centers and foundations for scientific research of international dimension and partly funded by public funds.

4) How are Chiropractic studies done?

Chiropractic studies are similar to medical studies; Moreover, both degrees are of equal academic value in the USA. It is therefore for Chiropractic a long-cycle, constant-control, university-based curriculum based on a single internationally accepted standard. These studies are done in the Faculty of Chiropractic exclusively; specific faculties but similar to the faculties of Medicine. There are two accredited educational structures for chiropractic in France. There is no other way of teaching Chiropractic.

5) What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath, an etiopath?

Osteopathy, unlike chiropractic, is performed by many different practitioners.

In summary, the difference lies in the approach to health, the method of care and especially the quality of training of the practitioner.

According to the law, osteopaths (or etiopaths) are trained in 83 private schools in France according to 3 different courses of different quality. There is no official standard.

For graduates, the course (seminars or full-time) is 2660 hours or Bac + 3 to obtain this new diploma of medical auxiliary. No diagnostic course or radiology is planned.

For doctors, dentists, midwives and other medical auxiliaries (physiotherapists, nurses, etc.), training in osteopathy will be only 1225 hours of training. Only osteopathic doctors have the right to diagnosis.

Nearly 5,000 osteopaths settle each year in France. So, in France, osteopaths are far more numerous than chiropractors with regard to their very fast and easily accessible formations …

However, in terms of health and the world over, the profession of chiropractor is very largely dominant and referential, not to say exclusive.

This is because chiropractors are a specific international health profession in their own right. They practice an art of non-manipulative manual treatment taught exclusively in faculty, like the Medicine or the Dental Surgery.

There is, however, a great deal of confusion spread by most media regarding the respective health service of chiropractors and osteopaths. This confusion, due to ignorance, lies in the fact that the media in France, assimilate chiropractors to other vertebral manipulators of various labels and put everyone in the same bag for ease or simplistic spirit …

It is essential, however, to conclude this question, to ask if by training in a few weekends a nurse, a physiotherapist or a doctor with the basics of a simplified dentistry, one can make a practitioner of the same professional and qualitative level that a dentist trained in faculty to his specific art …

6) What is the difference between a chiropractor and a vertebrotherapist, an osteotherapist, a chirotherapist?

Chirotherapists, vertebrotherapists or osteotherapists are exclusively physicians trained in a few weekend courses in basic spinal manipulation as a therapeutic accessory. These terms constitute a deception simply designating a method of care by manipulations vertebral and can lead to confusion in the patient on the type of care and its purpose. This dialectical stratagem consists in making the public believe that a doctor-chiropractor advantageously replaces an authentic chiropractor without ever having studied this art in a faculty of approved chiropractic.

7) What is the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

Everything differentiates and separates them: the studies, the purpose of their work, their status.

Like the nurse, chiropodist or occupational therapist, the physiotherapist is officially a medical assistant working under a doctor’s prescription and control. The physio is only trained to do physical rehabilitation.

The chiropractor is to be placed in the category of paramedics such as dentist and midwife. These are independent in their exercise, so do not depend on the prescription or the control of a doctor.

Chiropractors have this independent status in countries where they are officially recognized. They form a large self-reliant field-specific profession, like dentists, and are responsible for maintaining a good balance of neural health in patients.

8) Why are there different names like chiropractic, chiropractic, chiropractic, chiropractic and chiropractors, chiropractors, chiropractors and what is the correct name?

The term “chiropractor” is the correct and correct translation, in good French, of the English term “chiropractor”, namely “practitioner of the hands”.

The term “chiropractor” is also a linguistic barbarism: it does not say “a health trainer”. In France, we kill willingly our language …

The term “chiropractor” is the term officially recommended by the French Academy in accordance with the law on the Francophonie (Toubon Law). It is the only term used in French-speaking countries (Quebec, Switzerland, Belgium), a country where this profession is also officially recognized.

9) Are chiropractic and osteopathy the same?

No. Originally, Osteopathy was founded in 1875 by A. T. Still, the son of a pastor who had learned to heal the wounded on the battlefield of the Civil War. This respectable practitioner thought that diseases were due to a poor circulation of moods and fluids of the body (blood and lymph). He invented a manipulative technique to treat patients with recognized success.

In 1895, Dr. D. Palmer, a renowned magnetist, officially laid the foundations of Chiropractic on his clinical experience. The art was then developed by his son, a scholar, who quickly gave him his pedigree by working on his concept and scientific foundations. Les Palmer thought that indeterminate health problems, called “malaise”, were due to poor circulation of nerve impulses, poor synchronization of vertebral function with the nervous / brain system leading to depletion of vitality ; this state of weakness eventually becoming an open door to disease.

But D.D. & B.J. Palmer, however, developed a new and very specific and precise technique of care, which he rightly named “adjustment®” to be completely dissociated (because very different) from simple vertebral manipulation. Chiropractic art is therefore different from osteopathic art just as the art of an electronics engineer differs from that of a mechanic. However, Chiropractic offers the advantage, through its various sophisticated adjustment techniques, to influence all dimensions of being (body, emotional, intellectual) thus providing a complete well-being.

Nowadays, it turns out that Chiropractic, having always been able to base its concepts precisely on scientific publications, has become much more important at the international level than Osteopathy for having immediately shown that neurology predominated as a key of health, which is now an unavoidable finding.

Moreover, its reliability based on the quality of its teaching has made its reputation among patients as well as health insurance and the medical profession.

At the beginning of the third millennium, Chiropractic largely dominates the world of health in the field of manual care thanks to its highly structured organization and rigorous teaching well arranged that ensures and guarantees a very serious training of chiropractors; which is an essential point.

10) Do we have reactions after the first session of chiropractic care?

The chiropractor, during care, encourages and causes your body to return to a normal mode of operation. In general, a patient consults because his organic functioning has strongly derived to finally arrive at the sufferings that motivate the consultation. But his suffering finally hatched a little like after an incubation process for an infectious disease.

It is normal for natural treatments working on the root cause, causing your troubles, push your body to correct its drift to operate in a new mode but normal, while eliminating the problem at its source. However, this positive change can be very momentarily uncomfortable. Know that the best care of homeopathy and acupuncture also produce such a process (healing crisis) recovery.

After the first session, you can feel small muscle soreness as if you had resumed a sport after long years of inactivity because certain sclerotic articular and neural functions resume normal activity; the body also removes stored toxins.

The health problems that cause patients to consult a chiropractor have often been deeply implanted for years before hatching and creating pain. However, patients are rarely aware of this biological reality. Treating the root cause of these disruptions requires complex and precise care that upsets a morbid balance to rebuild a new healthy and beneficial balance.

By masking the pain by superficial devices of comfort (anti-pain and anti-inflammatory drugs) we obtain an immediate (sometimes) but very ephemeral and completely illusory relief. These drugs let the problems deepen, root insidiously: Many people know this reality by experience.

On the other hand, if we cure the root cause of the disturbances, we obtain a more progressive relief but much more stable and beneficial in the long run. If the bottom care does not always stop the pain as one turns off the light, they do not lie about the result.

The good old and genuine health care necessarily require time because any natural process takes time. It also takes time for an organization to rebalance its deep mechanisms. It’s logic.

11) How many sessions do you need for a chiropractor?

It is a fact that many people in France still come to consult chiropractors as a last resort, that is to say when the disorders are well anchored, well developed. In addition, the patient who comes to the chiropractor is usually well mired in a poor condition often complicated by various other inappropriate care.

Given the stress due to a desperate wait for patients, we have generally observed that a dozen sessions are necessary.

The fact of being well cared for and stabilized in less than 8 sessions shows that we have been treated by a good chiropractor, and less than 5 sessions shows that we had to deal with an excellent practitioner. This does not mean that we must always ask for the miracle because in terms of health, “as one makes his bed, one goes to bed”.

It is after we measure the distance traveled because if it took years to reach the state that made us consult, it has fortunately often enough a few weeks to get out. Generally, the ratio is 1/5, that is to say that for 5 months of suffering, one heals in 1 month, five years of suffering, one heals in 1 year, etc. We must honestly consider the real situation and the speed of healing to thank the power of recovery inherent in our body.

That said, if you can not, a good chiropractor will tell you very quickly that he can not help you if you have already passed the point of no return.

12) Can a chiropractor be consulted for preventive purposes?

If a patient consults without pains or particular disorders but just to be neurovertically normalized, the initial care can be fast. Then, be aware that a column being used every day, sometimes without care, it is very useful to consult his chiropractor between 2 to 4 times a year to prevent any functional drift of the spine. As with the teeth that are routinely brushed morning and night, rather than doing it only when they are considered dirty, the spine must be checked regularly in the year in a systematic way. It is indeed one of the three pillars of health.

13) Is chiropractic care reimbursed by Social Security?

Graduate chiropractors finally have official status in France since March 2002.

However, Social Security does not yet reimburse the care of chiropractors.

On the other hand, more and more mutuals or private insurances reimburse their care: all you have to do is contact your mutual insurance company or insurance company.

It should be noted, however, that since Social Security lost its monopoly by a state ordinance in 2001 (see Links page), it has become a simple state-owned mutual that no longer has authority. The field of competition is therefore open between the Sécu and the mutual or health insurance.

However, the best reimbursement in the world can not restore health to an organization that has passed the point of no return because of advanced deterioration. You have to know how to make choices and become responsible in anticipating the future, especially as the older you get, the harder it is to heal.

14) Are x-rays requested by a chiropractor reimbursed?

Normally, the radiologist accedes to the request of the patient since he himself is a doctor, so he prescribes his own act and also provides the standard form for reimbursement of radios, CT or MRI.

A doctor does not order anything from another doctor. He orders only the medical auxiliaries and the pharmacist. The definition of a medical prescription is precise in the French law: a general practitioner does not make order of X-rays but a simple request for specific shooting. Anyway, even if you fall and suspect a fracture, you can go directly to a radiologist who will X-rays and they will also be reimbursed. It is the Code of Public Health and the Code of Mutuality that governs things. That said, it is sometimes necessary to go to a general practitioner who will “prescribe” (false sense) radios according to the instructions of the Social Security.

However, if a radiologist refuses you X-rays that are advised by a chiropractor, it is because he has exceeded his annual quota or he is not familiar with the regulations, or that he has little interest in your health…

15) Does the College of Physicians recognize chiropractors?

The College of Physicians is only authorized to regulate the profession of physician, just as the Bar Association regulates the profession of lawyer and the College of Dentists the profession of dentist. That’s all.

No Order in France can judge or rule the profession of chiropractor. Only the Ministry of Health is responsible for formally recognizing a health profession and granting status to its practitioners.

Currently, no health official or scientist in the world doubts the professional qualities of chiropractors and the benefits of Chiropractic, the world’s third largest formal health profession.

Chiropractors are currently officially recognized in France by the law of March 4, 2002. Their status is defined by decree and order of January 7, 2011.

16) Does Chiropractic cure diseases?

The purpose of authentic Chiropractic is not and has never been to cure diseases. Its purpose is to restore a normal state of health and a balanced neurovertebral function, essential condition of life and thus base of a good vitality.

In other words, Chiropractic is mainly preventive and incidentally curative. You will never see a chiropractor claim to cure any disease since this is not his goal.

Disease care is devolved to medicine.

Chiropractic was not founded to replace Medicine or to replace any other discipline. It has been designed to develop health through a specific life action.

Chiropractic concepts have always been supported by biological observations and no scientist is currently challenging them, especially as they are nowadays just right.

So Chiropractic is an alternative health profession. It is therefore neither a therapy, nor a medicine, nor even a technique or method of medical care.

17) Does the chiropractor treat back pain, sciatica, lumbago, headache, torticollis, etc.?

The Palmérien chiropractor accesses your nervous system through the spine. By regulating its function to be able to regulate that of your nervous system, it removes at the same time the common backache since this back pain is generally resulting from a bad vertebral function.

There are surely several causes for sciatica, lumbago, headache, torticollis, etc. There are also other health problems similar to sciatica or lumbago, etc.

Your chiropractor will surely bring you an individual response, but he does not read in a crystal ball or in the coffee grounds and can not guess anything without prior clinical examinations.

You need to determine if your case is within your area of care. That said, several studies have found that many common and common health conditions are associated with vertebral dysfunction. This is the reason why, during these idiopathic disorders or during minor accidents, health insurance American, Canadian or European encourage patients to consult with chiropractors first because often the problem is solved so inexpensively, without sequelae, and the approach stops there. However, Chiropractic is not the panacea but it can be very practical in many situations.

18) Where to find chiropractors in the phone book and on the Internet?

You will find currently graduated chiropractors in the Yellow Pages, simply under the heading “CHIROPRACTIE”.

You will find the list on the Internet of graduate chiropractors practicing in France in the National Directory of Graduate Chiropractors (RNCD)

19) Why don’t doctors send us to chiropractors when necessary?

Some knowledgeable, honest and sincere doctors do it fluently but discreetly so as not to get scolded by the College of Physicians. Indeed, the order of doctors still prohibits any cooperation with chiropractors … Thus, this order oversees all “treason” and severely punished. This is where questions arise about their respect for the Hippocratic oath in the face of human suffering. Yet to refer a patient to another type of care when nothing is possible for him is evidence of honorable goodness, humanity and responsibility.

Nevertheless, many doctors are treated by chiropractors, often even with their entire family; but they do not boast for the reasons mentioned above. It is however a fact that for many doctors, a dilemma arises. If they refer patients to chiropractors, they will lose a few consultations while at the same time putting themselves at the disposal of the College of Physicians but will have the recognition of these patients. However, they may choose to look only at their personal interests by not referring their patients to the chiropractor but will surely not have the recognition of these patients if they alone find, with satisfaction, the chiropractic solution …

20) Can children or elderly people be brought to chiropractors for consultation?

Yes, absolutely. Remember, Palmerian chiropractors do not do spinal manipulation. There are therefore chiropractic care techniques adapted to the elderly as well as to children. They generally like chiropractors very well because the care is not painful and the chiropractor’s hydraulic table is like a fun ride for them. There are therefore perfectly effective and safe modes of care because the chiropractic adjustment is very flexible, unlike the spinal manipulation which is a maneuver of force quite dangerous, unpleasant and unreliable. In fact, scoliosis care is particularly effective in chiropractors, as the results show: a worldwide survey determined that all medical care for scoliosis was only 35% effective (including surgery) compared to 84% for care. chiropractic. This is the reason why in many modern countries children are also examined by chiropractors during school medical visits. In Germany, in some hospitals, the column of newborns is checked by chiropractors who, according to the observers, resolve many minor minor health problems (regurgitation, untimely crying, agitation, impaired sleep, etc.).

For the elderly, there is no age limit, as for children. Chiropractors modulate their techniques to adapt to each case. Many find themselves better by regaining a better vitality and flexibility.

21) Is “Palmierian Chiropractic” a term for Chiropractic as it was practiced at the time of its founder?

This registered label officially designates the authentic Chiropractic by the name of its founder for precise legal reasons. In France according to the laws Chiropractic may be, for the time being, theoretically exercised by different health practitioners of different denominations and sometimes in other ambiguous terms (chiropractic, chiropractic, chiropractic, chiropractic, chirotherapy, etc.). Despite the official recognition of this profession, the situation unfortunately remains vague and misleading for lack of exclusivity clearly specified in the decrees.

However, Chiropractic Palmérienne® is a term reserved exclusively for chiropractors, graduates “doctors of chiropractic”, that is to say the authentic chiropractors. This is simply a further concrete guarantee for patients on the quality of care.

Palmierian chiropractic refers only to the practice of art in a spirit of authenticity. Dr. Palmer had scientific data on the advances in science of his time throughout his career as a clinician scientist and philosopher. However, his realism has led him to deposit concepts able to evolve with scientific discoveries and modern technological advances without however losing their specific spirit and their clinical objective.

Thus, the spirit that Palmer gave to Chiropractic remains invariant: the Palmierian Chiropractic is not intended to treat only back pain, although this consequence of care is most obvious to the public in view of the results clinics contributing to its famous international success. The true purpose of authentic chiropractic care is essentially to enable the patient’s body to fully express its vitality potential.

Visionary and aware of biological realities that today are becoming increasingly evident, Palmer sought by his care to restore and develop the physiological balance of its patients by allowing the nervous system to optimally regulate the function of all patients. organism, since this is his role.

For Palmer, indeed, the nervous system (including the brain) is the dominant organ that controls and conditions health. His concepts remain in perfect synchronization and convergence with those of many scientists from other disciplines such as Béchamp and Tissot whose theories are now verified and are currently essential realism. Indeed, modern neuroscience, psychosomatic knowledge and clinical findings confirm Palmer’s ‘philosophy’ of the principles of health and the utility of this pioneering care to actually keep the individual in a good life balance.

Today, modern Chiropractic still follows its technical evolution, like any other science or system of care, to remain at the forefront of the knowledge of life while retaining the same ‘philosophy’: to develop health since the beginning. inside.

22) What is the difference between adjustment and spinal manipulation?

It is important to clearly distinguish these two fundamentally different methods in spirit and purpose as well as in technical terms.

The chiropractor adjusts, and this term is his own: neuro-vertebral adjustment is therefore the specific and original professional act of chiropractors.

The adjustment causes the natural suppression of neuro-vertebral dysfunctions by the body itself, therefore a lymphatic, vascular, articular, neurological and musculotendinous self-balancing that regulates the vertebral structural function concerned.

We can adjust the adjustment to accommodate the different clinical conditions encountered and optimize the results in sensitive cases. It is for this reason that chiropractic adjustment is much more comfortable and reliable than manipulation. It does not cause any side effects and is suitable for babies as well as for the elderly.

The manipulation is a forced mobilization, by long arm of leverage, deliberately imposed on the joints thus distended in the painful zone. The preparatory muscular massage of the region concerned is even recommended in certain methods by their authors because of the very often aggressive tendency of this rough release, often violent, of the articular mechanisms: the handling thus comprises many contraindications limiting its employment given its more or less controlled roughness leading moreover to an instability of joint cohesion.

Spinal manipulation does not exist in the teaching of Palmériens chiropractors because of the archaism, the therapeutic limits and the destabilizing side effects of this obsolete technique, sometimes dangerous, ultimately harmful to harmony and balance. vertebral physiology.

Manipulation is a technique widely used as an adjuvant therapeutic adjunct by many and various medical therapists or not. Its use is therefore still widespread despite its dangers. More and more are the disappointed patients whose case is even aggravated by very summarily qualified therapists.
