Foundation of chiropractitioners
Officially founded in the United States in 1895 by DD PALMER, DC, an American health practitioner, chiropractic (pronounced Kiro-practice) Palmérienne® is a science and an art that focuses on the care of the musculoskeletal system (the neuro- skeleton®), with a focus on the existing interactive relationships between the spine, nervous system and health, on which the overall function of the whole organism and its level of vitality depend.
A specific concept
Chiropractic therefore studies the interface between the nervous system and the rest of the body to ultimately optimize the health management of the living being.
Indeed, the brain, protected by the skull, harmoniously develops the coordination of operation of the whole body. Its extension, the spinal cord sheltered in the spine constantly conveys all the information synchronized by the brain to control each cell of the body, thus managing the vital processes. The cellular and functional integrity of these two organs is essential to life.
The philosophical principles of chiropractors are therefore based on the consideration of four conceptual pillars:
Psychosomatic adaptation as programming of phenomena related to organic matter and its management over time.
Allostasis as an adaptive physiological cellular process,
Homeostasis as the optimal balance of vital functions resulting from allostasis,
The reversibility of cellular functions as a property of living matter.
The vertebral column, in its role of flexible central support of the skeleton, a case of the spinal cord, is subjected to successive disturbances and accumulated to various degrees in the daily life. These disorders, which make up the concept of neuro-vertebral dysfunction, end up painfully disrupting, unbalancing and desynchronizing neuro-mechanical vertebral function.
The dysfunction of the vertebral function associated with nervous dysfunction systematically generates that of the nervous system which undergoes a constant disturbance to various degrees. Consequently, this state of disruption inevitably handicaps cellular adaptation and, in addition to creating pain, leads to a progressive functional anarchy of the whole organism. The latter is weakened, going from the temporary discomfort to chronic fatigue and then to the sick state (malaise) which results in more and more serious health problems that often end up generating a disease.
The process of neuro-vertebral dysfunction is usually triggered when confronted with various phenomena of everyday life, here some examples (not exhaustive).
Psychic conflicts requiring compensations by brain programs of survival
The various physical traumas ranging from big shocks to small daily occupational constraints
Socio-professional constraints of positions, positions or workloads
Nutritional disturbances and their physiological consequences in the field
The sedentary lifestyle and disturbances of biological rhythms
Consumption of synthetic and / or toxic chemicals
The chiropractor recognizes and scientifically studies the clinical observations of the following three manifestations:
Neurological synchonization
The disease state, as malaise preliminary to the disease,
Neuro-vertebral dysfunction, as a neurophysiological and biomechanical process as one of the origins of the disease state.
Chiropractic care is called ‘manipulative’ manual care according to the generic term. However, these treatments are not vertebral or joint manipulations like those commonly practiced in other disciplines. It is for this that the chiropractic act is called “adjustment”. In fact, the role of the chiropractor is similar to that of a catalyst allowing the weakened and destabilized organism to self-balance, to self-harmonize by developing a corrective process in response to the chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustment is therefore a reliable, precise and specific care technique, comfortable and non-aggressive.
The goal of the chiropractor is essentially to stimulate adaptive vitality by eliminating neuro-vertebral dysfunctions and synchronizing neuro-vertebral function, strategically vital for health.
A traditional approach
The chiropractic concepts are the expression of a thought and a science considering the global approach of the health of the human being in its very environment. This conception of health has proved its worth by persisting through the ages, without having lost its efficiency and realism. It is more relevant than ever.
A concept of care in its own right, chiropractic responds to a real need for essential (functional) maintenance of the human body, which must be carefully, gently and reliably treated to obtain the best possible balance and energy potential. The evolving dynamism of traditional chiropractic concepts also ensures patients a quality of care served by progressive techniques and active research using the most modern scientific data.
A primordial socio-sanitary position
The chiropractor is everywhere an independent professional in the practice of his art: like the dentist, he self-prescribes his act, after thorough clinical and radiological examination. Its exercise is formalized in all Anglo-Saxon countries and most other industrialized countries.
From private practice to hospitals, including in the army (in some socially advanced countries), the chiropractor is setting an important new path in modern medicine: Improving the level of public health by maintaining vital balance through Guided optimization of the normal neurological function of the body.
Chiropractic, with its original but realistic purpose, allows to broaden and significantly complement the therapeutic range of so-called ‘natural’ care, significantly improving, upstream, living conditions and health for a very low therapeutic cost. This is confirmed by its growing clinical success and undeniable social popularity around the world.
As the second largest health profession in the US and CANADA, the third largest in the world, chiropractic has an undisputed scientific and clinical foundation as a concept of non-allopathic care; she is in constant social evolution.
Chiropractic studies are specific, long-term (similar to medicine), constant-control, international academic studies, based on rigorous international official standards, and sanctioned by a globally recognized and accredited doctorate: United States, Canada, Australia, Japan , New Zealand, Mexico, South Africa, Israel, Jordan, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, etc.
The chiropractor has the same rights and duties as the doctor, apart from prescription drugs and surgery, in all the above-mentioned countries. In many other countries, having regard to the public service rendered, he exercises freely pending adjustment of the legislation. In France the Ministry of Health officially recognized chiropractors in March 2002 only …
Chiropractic science has been built around a concept of optimizing the patient’s health and its maintenance. For the Palmérien® chiropractor, the spine is, after all, the gateway to the patient’s health.
Also, the usefulness of chiropractic is well demonstrated since energy deficits creators of malaise (stress, nervousness, chronic fatigue, overwork, neurasthenia, depression), pediatric vertebral care (scoliosis, kyphosis, growth), by the way by the correction of chronic back pain (torticollis, cervicalgia, lumbago, lumbago, back pain, joint pain, etc.), certain functional neuro-physiological disorders of the body (various types of sciatica, migraines, neuralgia, digestive disturbances, endocrine, etc.), from the technical interview of athletes of all levels, to the post-traumatic care of accident victims.
Of course, chiropractors work in collaboration with other specialists in the medical field for cases that do not fall immediately under his care.
Without pretending to be the panacea, this concept of holistic care is particularly specific to specifically and effectively treat health disorders, previously difficult to apprehend without drugs, avoiding heavy, complex and costly medical procedures.
